Pilling happens when fabric rubs against fabric. To keep it to a minimum:
- Turn t-shirts inside out before washing, by hand or in the machine.
- Choose a delicate cycle with cold water. Less agitation means fewer pills, and cotton can shrink in hot water.
- Skip the dryer and hang your shirts to dry instead.
- Wash heavy items such as jeans and towels in a separate load.
- If pills do appear, remove them gently with a fabric shaver.
